Chickpeas are one of the most widely consumed pulses in the world, used for hummus, canned products, dal and flour. FUSHKOV GCG supplies kabuli and desi chickpeas to importers, processors and food manufacturers internationally on Incoterms 2020 terms.
Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum), also known as garbanzo beans or gram, are the dry seeds of a legume grown in warm, dry climates. They contain about 20% protein on a dry basis, together with starch and fibre. Two market types are traded internationally, kabuli and desi, which differ in seed size, colour and use.

South Asia — India, Pakistan and Bangladesh — is the largest consuming region, mainly for desi chickpeas used as chana dal and besan. Kabuli chickpeas are in demand in the Middle East, Turkey, North Africa and Europe for hummus, canned chickpeas and retail packs. Major exporters include Australia, Russia, Canada, Argentina, Mexico and the United States.
Chickpeas are shipped in bulk, in big bags or in 25–50 kg bags, by sea, rail or multimodal routes. Calibrated kabuli chickpeas for food use are usually packed in bags.
Kabuli chickpeas are larger, lighter in colour and have a thin coat; they are mostly eaten whole. Desi chickpeas are smaller and darker with a thick coat; they are mostly split into dal or milled into flour.
Calibre is the seed size, measured by screening through round-hole sieves and stated in millimetres, for example 8–9 mm. The required calibre is fixed in the contract.
Dried, shelled chickpeas (garbanzos) are classified under HS 0713 20. The final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
