Molasses Supplier — Cane and Beet Molasses

Molasses is the thick, dark syrup remaining after sugar has been crystallised from cane or beet juice, valued as a feed ingredient and a fermentation feedstock. FUSHKOV GCG supplies cane and beet molasses to feed, yeast and fermentation industries worldwide on Incoterms 2020 terms.

What molasses is

In sugar production, juice from cane or beet is concentrated and boiled to crystallise sucrose. After repeated crystallisation, the remaining syrup, from which no more sugar can be economically recovered, is final molasses. It contains sucrose and invert sugars, minerals, organic acids and nitrogen compounds. Major cane molasses exporters include India, Pakistan, Thailand, Brazil and other tropical sugar producers; beet molasses comes from the European Union, Russia, Ukraine and Egypt.

Cane and beet molasses

Cane molasses
By-product of cane sugar mills. Contains a higher share of invert sugars and is widely used in feed, rum and ethanol distilling.
Beet molasses
By-product of beet sugar factories. Sugar is mostly sucrose; it contains betaine and is a classic substrate for baker’s yeast and fermentation.

Main uses and markets

  • Animal feed. Molasses improves palatability, binds dust, acts as a pellet binder and supplies readily fermentable sugar to rumen microbes; it is also used in liquid feeds and feed blocks.
  • Yeast and fermentation. Molasses is a standard carbon source for baker’s yeast, ethanol, citric acid and other fermentation products.
  • Other uses. Distilling, silage additive and soil conditioning products.

Packaging and logistics

Molasses is traded mainly as liquid bulk, shipped in the tanks of tanker vessels and stored in shore tanks at load and discharge ports; other forms of packaging are agreed in the contract. Because molasses is viscous, it is often heated for pumping, and the quantity is usually determined by tank or shore-tank measurement at loading.

Why FUSHKOV GCG

International supply. We supply feed ingredients and fermentation raw materials, including molasses, to buyers worldwide.
Incoterms 2020. The delivery basis is fixed in the contract under Incoterms 2020 rules.
Independent inspection. Quantity and quality are typically checked by an independent inspector at loading.
Long-term contracts. We work with producers and buyers under long-term contracts; consultation and a commercial offer are available on request.

Frequently asked questions

What does Brix mean for molasses?

Brix measures the dissolved solids in the syrup. It indicates concentration, but total sugars are determined separately by laboratory analysis, because molasses also contains non-sugar solids.

Which is better for feed, cane or beet molasses?

Both are used in feed. Cane molasses is generally richer in invert sugars, while beet molasses contains betaine; the choice depends on the formula, availability and the destination market.

Which HS code applies to molasses?

Molasses from the extraction or refining of sugar is classified under HS heading 1703: cane molasses under 1703 10 and other molasses, including beet, under 1703 90. The final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
