Muriate of potash (MOP), or potassium chloride, is the most widely used potassium fertiliser and the main source of potash in world agriculture. FUSHKOV GCG supplies standard and granular MOP to agricultural buyers and fertiliser producers internationally on Incoterms 2020 terms.
Potassium chloride, KCl, is extracted from underground potash ore deposits by conventional or solution mining and then refined by flotation or crystallisation. Fertiliser grade MOP contains at least 60% potassium expressed as K2O, which corresponds to roughly 95% KCl. The pink or red colour of many grades comes from traces of iron oxide; white MOP is produced by crystallisation and usually has a slightly higher K2O content. Major exporters include Canada, Russia and Belarus.

Potassium regulates water balance, strengthens stems and improves crop quality and resistance to drought and disease. MOP is applied to cereals, maize, oilseeds, sugar crops, rice and pastures, and is the main potassium component of bulk blends and compound fertilisers. For chloride-sensitive crops such as tobacco and some fruit and vegetable crops, potassium sulphate is often preferred.
MOP is shipped in bulk, in big bags or in 50 kg bags, by sea, rail or multimodal routes. Granular MOP is preferred for long sea voyages and blending because it generates less dust and is less prone to caking.
The grade shows no nitrogen, no phosphorus and 60% potassium expressed as K2O, as a percentage by weight.
The colour comes from traces of iron oxide and the production method. Agronomically both supply potassium in the same chloride form; the K2O content is fixed in the specification.
Potassium chloride used as a fertiliser is classified under HS 3104 20. The final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
