SOP Supplier — Potassium Sulphate 0-0-50
Sulphate of potash (SOP), or potassium sulphate, is a chloride-free potassium fertiliser that also supplies sulphur. FUSHKOV GCG supplies standard, granular and soluble SOP to growers, distributors and fertiliser producers internationally on Incoterms 2020 terms.
What SOP is
Potassium sulphate, K2SO4, is produced either by reacting potassium chloride with sulphuric acid (the Mannheim process) or by processing natural salt deposits and brines. Commercial grades contain at least 50% potassium expressed as K2O and about 17–18% sulphur. Its very low chloride content and low salt index make SOP the potassium source of choice for chloride-sensitive and high-value crops. China is among the largest producers; Europe and North America also produce SOP.
Grades
Typical specification (reference)
| Parameter | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Potassium (K2O), min | 50% |
| Sulphur (S) | about 17–18% |
| Chloride (Cl) | Low, maximum as specified by grade |
| Moisture | As specified in the contract |
| Granule size (granular) | 2–4 mm or as specified |
| HS code | 3104 30 |
Reference values for typical commercial grades. The final specification is fixed in the contract; the final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
Use in agriculture
SOP is applied to fruit, vegetables, potatoes, tobacco, tea, coffee, grapes, citrus, nuts and other crops where chloride may reduce yield or quality. It also improves the sulphur balance of the soil. Soluble grades are widely used in greenhouses and drip-irrigated horticulture, often together with Water-soluble fertilisers. For crops tolerant of chloride, MOP (potassium chloride) remains the more economical potassium source.
Packaging and logistics
Standard and granular SOP are shipped in bulk, big bags or 25–50 kg bags; soluble grades are normally packed in bags or big bags. Delivery is by sea, rail or multimodal routes.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between SOP and MOP?
SOP is potassium sulphate, with about 50% K2O and 17–18% sulphur and very little chloride. MOP is potassium chloride with about 60% K2O. SOP is used where chloride is undesirable.
Can SOP be used in drip irrigation?
Yes, the soluble grade is designed for fertigation. Standard and granular grades are intended for soil application.
Which HS code applies to SOP?
Potassium sulphate used as a fertiliser is classified under HS 3104 30. The final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
