Feed Glycerin Supplier — Crude and Feed-Grade Glycerol

Crude glycerin is a co-product of biodiesel and oleochemical production, used as an energy source in animal feed and as a raw material for refining. FUSHKOV GCG supplies crude and feed-grade glycerin to feed manufacturers and industrial buyers worldwide on Incoterms 2020 terms.

What crude glycerin is

When vegetable oils or animal fats are converted into biodiesel by transesterification, roughly one tonne of crude glycerin is formed for every ten tonnes of biodiesel. Fat splitting and soap making give a similar glycerol stream. Crude glycerin contains glycerol together with water, salts, residual fatty matter and traces of methanol. For feed use, methanol and other impurities must be within the limits set by feed regulations. Supply comes from major biodiesel and oleochemical producers, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the European Union, Argentina and Brazil.

Grades of glycerin

Crude glycerin
Typically 80–88% glycerol. Sold to refiners and to feed users where the specification and destination rules permit.
Feed-grade glycerin
Crude or partly refined glycerin meeting feed requirements on methanol, salts and other contaminants.

Typical specification (reference)

ParameterTypical value

Main uses and markets

  • Dairy cattle. Glycerol is converted to glucose in the liver and is used as a glucogenic energy source, particularly around calving.
  • Pigs, poultry and compound feed. Used as an energy ingredient and to reduce dust and improve pellet quality, at moderate inclusion.
  • Refining and industry. Crude glycerin is refined into pharmaceutical and technical glycerol for personal care, food, chemicals and other industries.

Packaging and logistics

Crude glycerin is traded mainly as liquid bulk, shipped in the tanks of chemical or product tankers and stored in shore tanks; other forms of packaging are agreed in the contract. Tank cleanliness and compatibility with previous cargoes are checked before loading.

Why FUSHKOV GCG

International supply. We supply feed ingredients, including feed glycerin, to buyers worldwide.
Incoterms 2020. The delivery basis is fixed in the contract under Incoterms 2020 rules.
Independent inspection. Quantity and quality are typically checked by an independent inspector at loading.
Long-term contracts. We work with producers and buyers under long-term contracts; consultation and a commercial offer are available on request.

Frequently asked questions

Is all crude glycerin suitable for feed?

No. Feed use requires that methanol, salts and other contaminants are within the limits of the destination’s feed regulations. The grade and limits are fixed in the contract.

What energy value does glycerol provide?

Pure glycerol has an energy value for livestock broadly comparable to cereal starch on a dry matter basis; the value of crude glycerin depends on its glycerol content.

Which HS code applies to crude glycerin?

Crude glycerol, glycerol waters and glycerol lyes are classified under HS heading 1520; refined glycerol falls under a different heading. The final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
