Palm Kernel Oil Supplier — Crude and RBD Palm Kernel Oil
Palm kernel oil is a lauric oil extracted from the kernel of the oil palm fruit, quite different from palm oil pressed from the flesh. FUSHKOV GCG supplies crude and refined palm kernel oil to food, soap and oleochemical producers worldwide on Incoterms 2020 terms.
What palm kernel oil is
The oil palm fruit yields two oils: palm oil from the fleshy mesocarp and palm kernel oil from the seed inside the nut. Palm kernel oil is rich in saturated medium-chain fatty acids, with lauric acid typically making up close to half of the total, which gives it a composition similar to coconut oil. It is solid at cool room temperature and melts sharply near body temperature. Indonesia and Malaysia are the leading producers and exporters. After the oil is extracted, the residue is sold as palm kernel expeller for animal feed.
Grades and fractions
Typical specification (reference)
| Parameter | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Free fatty acids (as lauric), max | Typically 5% (crude); 0.1% (RBD) |
| Moisture and impurities, max | Typically 0.5% (crude); 0.1% (RBD) |
| Iodine value (Wijs) | Typically 14–21 |
| Lauric acid (C12:0) | Typically 45–50% of fatty acids |
| Colour, melting point | As specified in the contract |
| HS code | 1513 21 (crude), 1513 29 (other) |
Reference values for typical commercial grades. The final specification is fixed in the contract; the final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
Main uses and markets
Refined palm kernel oil and its fractions are used in confectionery coatings, biscuit fillings, ice cream, non-dairy creamers and margarines. Crude oil is a major feedstock for oleochemicals — fatty acids, fatty alcohols and surfactants — and for soaps, detergents and cosmetics.
Packaging and logistics
Palm kernel oil is shipped in bulk in tankers or in flexitanks in containers, by sea or multimodal routes. Being semi-solid, it is heated before discharge.

Frequently asked questions
How is palm kernel oil different from palm oil?
Palm oil comes from the fruit flesh and is rich in palmitic and oleic acids; palm kernel oil comes from the kernel and is a lauric oil similar to coconut oil.
What is a lauric oil?
An oil in which lauric acid (C12:0) is the main fatty acid. Lauric oils melt sharply and are valued in confectionery fats and as raw materials for surfactants.
Which HS code applies to palm kernel oil?
Palm kernel oil falls under HS 1513 21 (crude) and 1513 29 (other, including refined). The final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
