Sulphuric Acid Supplier — H2SO4 for Fertiliser and Industry
Sulphuric acid is one of the most widely produced industrial chemicals and a key raw material for phosphate fertilisers. FUSHKOV GCG supplies sulphuric acid to fertiliser producers and industrial buyers internationally on Incoterms 2020 terms, in line with the rules for transporting corrosive goods.
What sulphuric acid is
Sulphuric acid, H2SO4, is a dense, oily, strongly corrosive liquid. It is produced by the contact process: sulphur dioxide is oxidised to sulphur trioxide over a catalyst and absorbed to form the acid. The sulphur dioxide comes either from burning elemental Sulphur or from industrial off-gases. The most widely traded grade is concentrated acid of about 98%; other concentrations are produced for specific uses.
Grades
Typical specification (reference)
| Parameter | Typical value |
|---|---|
| H2SO4 content | about 98%, or as specified |
| Iron and other impurities | As specified in the contract |
| Appearance | Clear to slightly coloured liquid |
| Density (98%) | about 1.84 g/cm3 |
| UN number | UN 1830 |
| HS code | 2807 00 |
Reference values for typical commercial grades. The final specification is fixed in the contract; the final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
Uses and markets
The largest use of sulphuric acid is the production of phosphoric acid from phosphate rock, which is then processed into DAP 18-46-0, MAP 11-52-0 and TSP 0-46-0. It is also used directly to make SSP (single superphosphate) and Ammonium sulphate, and in the chemical, pulp and paper, water treatment and many other industries. Importing regions are typically those with phosphate processing capacity but limited local acid production.
Packaging and logistics
Sulphuric acid is shipped as a liquid in bulk: by sea in chemical tankers with suitable tank materials, and over land in rail tank cars, road tankers and ISO tank containers, with storage in dedicated acid tanks. It is classified as a corrosive dangerous good, and loading, transport and discharge follow the applicable safety regulations.

Frequently asked questions
How is sulphuric acid linked to sulphur?
Most sulphuric acid is made by burning elemental sulphur to sulphur dioxide and converting it to acid. Buyers can therefore source either sulphur for their own acid plant or the acid itself.
Why is sulphuric acid important for fertilisers?
It is needed to dissolve phosphate rock, either to make phosphoric acid for DAP, MAP and TSP or directly to make single superphosphate.
Which HS code applies to sulphuric acid?
Sulphuric acid and oleum are classified under HS 2807 00. The final classification of a lot is confirmed by the customs declarant.
